BBYO – Short for B’nai B’rith Youth Organization. A co-educational youth group for high school boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 17. Youth run, youth led.
BAR – Big Apple Region. The New York chapters of the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization.
BBG – B’nai B’rith Girl(s). Can be either the girls section of BBYO, or one individual girl who is a member of BBYO.
AZA – Aleph Zadik Aleph. Can be either the boys section of BBYO, or one individual boy who is a member of BBYO.
Chapter – A chapter is one group of members of boys or girls that meet together, usually on a weekly basis. Each region is made up of different areas – each area contains many chapters.
Area – An area is a smaller part of a region made up of several chapters in a certain geographical location.
N’siah – President. The N’siah runs the girls’ chapter meetings and represents the chapter to the area, region, and international order of the B’nai B’rith Girls.
S’ganit – 1st Vice President. The S’ganit controls the executive board, and is in charge of making sure that the chapter is running programs in the six folds.
Morah – Teacher. 2nd Vice President. The Morah is in charge of membership recruitment, retention and re-education. She runs MIT sessions and induction ceremonies for new members.
Sh’lishit – 3rd Vice President. The Sh’lishit makes sure the chapter is actively fundraising for chapter funds as well as ISF/RSF.
Sh’licha – Messenger. The Sh’licha runs programs and events in the areas of Judaism, Social Action and Community Service.
Mazkirah - Corresponding Secretary. The Mazkirah calls all chapter members, and basically keeps the members communicating, and informed as to what's new in the chapter.
Orechet - Recording Secretary. The Orechet takes and reads minutes at meetings. She also takes attendance and roll call.
Gizbarit - Treasurer. The treasurer collects money at fundraisers, and keeps track of chapter monies.
Sgt. At Arms - The Seargent at Arms keeps order at meetings.
Sunshine Girl - The Sunshine Girl makes sure everyone in the chapter is happy... she sends birthday cards and things like that.
Shomeret Ha-brit - Shomeret Ha-brit open and closes the meetings with words of inspiration and wisdom.
ISF – International Scholarship Fund.
RSF – Regional Scholarship Fund. This fund is used to provide scholarships for Regional and International events and staff pay, among other things.
Region - This is a group of chapters in a larger geographical area than areas. Comprised of a group of "areas".
Regional - Taking place throughout the region.
Advisor - Staff person who advises the chapter and oversees events. Usually someone who has been in the organization. A fountain of information.
